How do I communicate with the teacher/school?

Emails are the best way to contact your teacher, when possible. As our teachers are teaching throughout the day, their ability to make/receive phone calls is limited to a 45 minute conference period. Please allow 24 hours for a return call.

  • www.annaisd.org is our website and has many great resources.
  • Be on the lookout every Thursday for graded schoolwork and upcoming school/community events that will be sent home in "Thursday Folders".

May I eat lunch with my child?

Yes, occasionally you may eat lunch with your child. Visitors will sign in through the office. First-time visitors will need to bring their driver's license or state-issued photo I.D.  Parents will sit at a designated lunch table with their child only. Parents will exit the cafeteria five minutes before the end of their child's lunch period. The student will then return to their class' designated table. Parents will not be allowed to walk students back to class after lunch. There will be no lunch visitors for the first week of school for all grade levels.

Can I bring cupcakes/treats or special deliveries for my child's birthday?

The short answer is no. You may however, donate a book to your child's classroom or school library in honor of your child. We do not accept special deliveries or send them up to your child's class on any day of the year, including Valentine's Day.

May I walk my child to class?

On the first day of school parents will be allowed to walk only their prekindergarten or kindergarten student to class. Starting the second day of school, all students must be dropped off in the designated car drop off area.

When and how do I drop my child off at Rattan?

Dropping off students in the parking lot is never allowed.

  • From 7:18-7:25, all students will be dropped off on the south side of the building, by the gymnasium.
  • After 7:25, all vehicles approaching from the south on Ferguson will continue to use the gym side drop off. All vehicles approaching from the north FM 455, will drop off in the bus lane, in front of the school.
  • Class starts promptly at 7:45. The first bell rings at 7:40. At that time, students will be released from their gathering area to walk to class. If a child is not yet in his or her classroom at the 7:45 bell, he or she will come to the office for a tardy slip.

When and how do I pick up my child from Rattan?

School is dismissed at 3:00. Please discuss with your child his or her after-school plans (pick up, walking home or riding the bus) so he or she knows what to do each day.

The car pick up line is the driveway on the south side of the building. The driveway in the front of the school is for busses only, during dismissal.  Any person without the family number with them at pick up, will be asked to park, go to the office, and show identification.

Walkers/bike riders will not be released until the busses have departed.

If there is an emergency change in the way your child goes home, you must call the school before 2:30.

Attendance Questions:

When should I keep my sick child home from school?

A student must be free from fever (100.4), vomiting, and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.  Free from fever means that the child must not have had acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin) to bring down the fever, for 24 hours before returning to class.

What do I need to do if my child will be absent from school?

You do not need to call the school. To excuse your child's absence, you will send a note within 5 days of the student's return.  Please include your child's name, date of absence, and reason of absence on the note. We will not be able to accept a written excuse past the 5th day and it will remain "unexcused".   The "5th Day Rule" does not apply when you provide a medical appointment note.
